Introduction to Data Protection

Description

Our half day introduction to data protection course is designed to enhance your knowledge of data protection within your organisation, at a level that gives you the basic skills to manage and protect data responsibly and ethically. The course covers legal guidance and practical topics to equip you with an understanding of data protection and the relevant legislation, for you to apply to your everyday work. By completing this introductory course, you'll be able to go on and complete the BCS Foundation Certificate in Data Protection if desired. 

The course is also interactive, so you will be encouraged to ask questions throughout, and can share your real world experiences with other attendees, discussing issues and ideas to help them within their role. You'll also talk through real-life practice scenarios to aid with your learning, giving you a proper hands-on approach. 

When you train with us at DPAS, you'll get more than just training. We'll provide you with free policies, templates, and tools after the course has concluded. We will also supply you with the relevant resources to help you throughout.

  • Introduction to data protection, UK GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018
  • Key data protection principles and how to apply them in your role.
  • What is personal data and special category data?
  • Why protecting personal data matters.
  • Definitions in law and how to interpret them clearly and practically. 
  • What is a personal data breach and ow to recognise one
  • Understanding individual rights and how to respond to requests. 
  • The role of information security in data protection (e.g. phishing, access control).
  • Introduction to generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT) and risks when handling personal data. 
  • Sanctions, enforcement, and consequences of non-compliance. 
  • Mini quizzes, case studies and interactive games to reinforce learning throughout.
